Experience the extraordinary Great Wildebeest Migration on an 8-day safari through some of Tanzania’s most spectacular wildlife destinations. This carefully designed journey combines the dramatic landscapes of Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with an extended stay in the northern Serengeti for the opportunity to witness the legendary Mara River crossings.
From July onward, the migrating herds move north through the Serengeti toward Kenya’s Masai Mara, with large concentrations often reaching the northern Serengeti between July and October. During this period, the Mara River becomes one of the most dramatic stages of the migration as wildebeest and zebra gather along its banks before attempting to cross.
However, river crossings are a natural wildlife event and cannot be guaranteed. Herds may remain near the river for hours or days before crossing, change direction, or move back toward the Serengeti. Weather, water levels, predator activity, and herd movements all influence their behavior. Our experienced safari guide will continuously monitor the migration and position the safari in the most promising areas.
The journey also includes a visit to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, often described as Africa’s Eden, renowned for its exceptional concentration of wildlife and predators, as well as Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its diverse ecosystems, birdlife, and tree-climbing lions.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by a Wildsmile Adventures representative and transferred privately to your lodge in Arusha. After check-in and some time to relax, you will meet your professional safari guide for a detailed briefing covering the safari itinerary, wildlife experiences, safety, and preparations for the days ahead. Wildlife may include elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, baboons, monkeys, and a remarkable variety of birdlife. After breakfast, depart for the legendary Serengeti National Park, travelling through the spectacular landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy an en-route game drive as you approach the Serengeti, followed by a picnic lunch along the way. Continue toward Central Serengeti and the Seronera Valley, one of the park’s richest wildlife areas.
Depending on current migration movements, your guide will carefully select the best areas for wildlife viewing and, where possible, follow the direction of the migrating herds. Accommodation: Moyo Tented Camp Full Board
After breakfast, continue north toward Kogatende and the Mara River area, entering one of the most spectacular regions of the Serengeti during the migration season. Spend the day on an extended game drive searching for the migrating wildebeest and zebra, while also watching for resident wildlife such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and numerous bird species.
The Mara River is the defining feature of this region, and if the herds are in the area and conditions are favorable, you may have the opportunity to witness a dramatic river crossing. River crossings are unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed, making every sighting a truly natural and spontaneous wildlife experience. Accommodation: Moyo Tented Camp Full Board
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Northern Serengeti and Mara River ecosystem. Set out after breakfast for a full day game drive, following the latest migration movements with the guidance of your experienced safari guide. Spend time around promising river viewpoints and migration corridors while exploring the surrounding kopjes, woodlands, riverine vegetation, and open plains.
The area offers excellent opportunities not only for witnessing the migration but also for observing the predators and resident wildlife that follow the herds. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the wilderness before continuing your afternoon exploration. Accommodation: Moyo Tented Camp Full Board
Enjoy an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, providing another opportunity for wildlife viewing in the beautiful morning light. After breakfast, begin your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoying wildlife viewing along the route.
En route, visit Olduvai Gorge, one of East Africa’s most important archaeological sites, associated with the renowned discoveries of Louis and Mary Leakey and significant findings in the study of human evolution. After breakfast, descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular crater game drive. Explore the crater floor, surrounded by dramatic volcanic walls and a remarkable concentration of wildlife.
The crater provides opportunities to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, flamingos, and, with luck, the endangered black rhino.
